FARGO -- UNLV is the boutique pick of many national college football pundits to be the Group of Six representative in the College Football Playoff. The Rebels won 10 games last year under veteran head coach Dan Mullen and brought in highly touted quarterback transfer Jackson Arnold, a one-time five-star recruit who played previously at Oklahoma and Auburn.
UNLV's pedigree will be put to the test in Week 0 in what is one of the bigger Mountain West Conference non-league games of the season.
The Rebels host Memphis on Saturday night at Allegiant Stadium in a nationally televised game that might have major CFP ramifications. UNLV is ranked 39th in the first Associated Press poll of the year, based on votes received. Memphis, of the American Conference, is tied for 45th and can't be counted out of the playoff discussion.
FOX will broadcast the game, with a 9 p.m. Central kickoff. UNLV is favored by 4.5 points, according to BetMGM.
A UNLV win would give an early boost of G6 legitimacy while a loss would make the Rebels' path to the CFP far more difficult....
