It's no secret that America's defense production has lagged for the last few decades. From Ukraine to Iran, even modest demands on our military have exposed cracks in America's ability to manufacture the weapons we need and to source materials for their production at sufficient scale.
We have no choice: America must rebuild our arsenal of democracy. And Arkansas has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to become one of the best places to build that arsenal.
Arkansas--with its business-friendly policies, talented workforce, abundant natural resources, training facilities, military bases, logistics companies, and production sites--already has the necessary components to succeed in the industry. In fact, The Wall Street Journal recently recognized Arkansas as a defense hub that attracts investment and economic growth.
A prime example is Camden, which produces many of the missiles, rockets, and other munitions our nation desperately needs. Just last year, General Dynamics invested $110 million in a new facility for 155-mm rounds, which is expected to create nearly 200 jobs.
