FAYETTEVILLE -- Perhaps the best outfield defender of the Dave Van Horn era at Arkansas happened to be on hand in recent days to give right fielder Kuhio Aloy and others some on-field pointers as the Razorbacks prepare to open the season on Friday at the College Baseball Showdown in Arlington, Texas.
Center fielder Dominic Fletcher, a defensive ace and key cog on Arkansas' College World Series teams in 2018-19, spends his offseasons in Fayetteville, and he gave sage advice to the current outfielders on Tuesday before he reports to the Pittsburgh Pirates spring training site in Bradenton, Florida, in a few days.
"[Fletcher] will be a great coach one day," Van Horn said Wednesday. "He's ate up with defense. ... As far as running the 60-yard dash, he's not the fastest center fielder I've ever had, but he may be the best center fielder I've ever had."
