PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico -- Fayetteville resident and artist Misha McQuillen Gardner will catch a flight to Houston on Wednesday after being trapped by cartel violence in the Pacific coast resort town of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, since Sunday.
Gardner's childhood friend and traveling companion on this trip, who asked not to be named, "got us rebooked to Houston TOMORROW," Gardner posted on social media. "I'll rent a car and drive home" from there, she said, although she is inclined to rest in Houston for the night first, according to her posts. She will work out the details of her return Wednesday, she posted.
The scheduled flight would arrive after 6:30 p.m., airline schedules indicate. The drive from Houston to Fayetteville will take over eight hours, according to maps.
Gardner also expressed gratitude to friends who reimbursed her traveling companion for the unexpected expense of booking the return flight on short notice. She also thanked friends who contacted public officials in the U.S. on her behalf.
