GRAVETTE -- The city has appointed a new prosecutor after the former city prosecutor stepped down from the role.
The Gravette City Council voted Sept. 22 to appoint John Benzick, an attorney with the Williams Law Firm in Gentry, as the city's new prosecutor.
Benzick already serves as prosecutor for the cities of Pea Ridge and Siloam Springs, according to the Williams Law Firm website.
Benzick has been in private practice with the Williams Law Firm since 2022. He holds a law degree from the University of Arkansas School of Law and is a member of the Benton County Bar Association, the Arkansas Bar Association and the Oklahoma Bar Association.
Council members also voted to accept the resignation of former City Attorney Paul Gregory, who said he is stepping down to devote more time to his private practice. He thanked the council for the opportunity to serve the city and said he would be available through October to assist Benzick during the transition. He added he knows Benzick and believes he will do a good job for the city.
