Origami Sake Brewery in Hot Springs (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette/Cary Jenkins)
Hot Springs-based Origami Sake is in merger talks with Florida-based Kintsugi Sake, Origami Sake's top executive said Tuesday.
An article published online Monday by Arkansas Business reported Kintsugi Sake LLC has acquired Origami Sake.
In response to emailed questions Tuesday morning, Origami Sake's Chief Executive Officer Matt Bell said the proposed deal is "actually a merger between Origami and Kintsugi and the creation of a new holding company to produce a portfolio of brands."
He said the deal is not complete and the companies were not prepared to release any further details.
In 2022 Origami Sake, Arkansas' only sake maker, began construction of its Hot Springs brewery and began sales in 2023. Its sake offerings include Thousand Cranes, White Lotus, Angelfish and Zero -- a non-alcoholic option and the first of its type produced in the United States.
