Rhoden, an ardent Second Amendment supporter, hunter, lifelong rancher, military veteran and public servant, assumed his office in January 2025. Gov. Rhoden previously served in South Dakota's state legislature and as lieutenant governor when he was elected in 2018 and re-elected in 2022.
