COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Even in an emotional Senior Day postgame, Missouri forward Mark Mitchell couldn't help but praise the opposition -- specifically, Arkansas freshman guard Meleek Thomas.
In the No. 20 Arkansas men's basketball team's 88-84 overtime win on Saturday at Mizzou Arena, Thomas put up a career high-tying 28 points to step up for the Razorbacks in place of star Darius Acuff and help spoil the Tigers' senior sendoff. Acuff, who averages 22.2 points and 6.4 assists per game, missed the game while resting a lingering ankle injuy before postseason play begins.
Mitchell was asked about Thomas' performance, and it made for a brief moment of levity. Mitchell paused for a moment, shook his head, smiled and laughed when the simple answer was the best answer.
"He's really good," he said. "I mean, he's kind of been doing the same thing with Acuff playing. Obviously with Acuff out, he hit some tough ones, man. He's a really good player; we weren't surprised by it. He's been doing it all year."
Thomas shot 9 of 22 from the field and hit 5 of his 6 perimeter shots against the Tigers (20-11, 10-8). He finished with 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block and 1 steal.
