Robyn Herron demonstrated why the Arkansas softball team can lean on her as its ace Saturday at Coastal Carolina.
The senior left-handed pitcher gave up just one hit and the eighth-ranked Razorbacks downed the Chanticleers 11-1 in a 5-inning run rule at the Kickin' Chicken Classic.
Herron (2-0) was dominant with a 10-strikeout performance with no walks. She had a no-hit bid spoiled with a double in the fifth inning.
Coastal Carolina (1-2) had no answer for Herron, whose only baserunners allowed came off a fourth-inning fielding error and the double. She threw 54 of 79 pitches for strikes.
Herron's strong 4 1/3-inning outing came on the heels of a 4-2 loss to Virginia earlier in the day, and it secured a doubleheader split for the Razorbacks.
Arkansas (3-1) will look to close the invitational strong against Akron on Sunday at 10 a.m. Central.
The Razorbacks gave Herron a lead to work with early. They went ahead 2-0 in the second inning with consecutive singles by Tianna Bell, Brinli Bain, Cam Harrison and Kailey Wyckoff.
