CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) - The South Carolina Forestry Commission deployed an eight-person task force to Arkansas Monday morning to assist local crews battling a week of historic wildfire activity across the state.
The SCFC team was sent to southern Arkansas, bringing two dozer units, a Type 6 engine, a UTV, and two chase trucks to support firefighting efforts.
The Arkansas Department of Agriculture continues to report high to extreme wildfire risk across all 75 counties. Burning bans are currently in effect in 70 counties.
The largest wildfire reported has burned nearly 3,000 acres. Persistent heat has worsened drought conditions statewide, leaving vegetation and other fuels dry and susceptible to fire.
