T-Mobile, Texas private equity firm eye acquisition of Uniti Group | Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
Uniti Group, Inc. is being eyed for acquisition by wireless provider T-Mobile US and Fort Worth-based private equity firm TPG Inc., according to media reports. London-based market analysis firm TMT Finance released an unsourced report Tuesday saying T-Mobile is interested in buying Uniti's fiber-to-the-home business, under its Kinetic banner, while TPG is interested in acquiring Uniti's enterprise fiber assets. Arkansas Business reported news of the possible acquisition on Wednesday. Kinetic completed a $23 million upgrade of its broadband equipment late last year, as the state prepares for an influx of federal broadband dollars. The TMT report said that the two potential purchasers could partner to bring a full acquisition offer to the company. The news comes on the heels of a $13.4 billion merger that was completed in August, which brought Uniti and Windstream back together after a decade apart. Uniti Group President and Chief Executive Officer Kenny Gunderman said earlier this year that the company plans to build $1 billion worth of fiber-optic data infrastructure this year.
