Tim Maddox jokes that he never had the choice of whether he would become an architect. Raised in Jonesboro, with an architect father who owned his own firm and designed the mid-century modern house Maddox grew up in, Maddox said architecture was "second nature to the way I grew up."
A foray into civil engineering in college helped him realize his "creative side needed an outlet," and that he was meant to be an architect. So, Maddox earned an architecture degree from the University of Arkansas in 2002.
"Dad taught me how to put buildings together and run projects, including meetings with clients, contractors, consultants ... and how to put a good set of drawings together and designing how the building is put together,"
Maddox said. "Architecture school exposed me to a greater world of design theory, and that was the motivating factor while I was in school."
In 2005 Maddox founded DEMX Architecture with Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design professor and department head, Tim de Noble.
Now as principal and owner of DEMX in Fayetteville, Maddox said, "I'm lucky in that I don't have a job most days; I have a passion. My dad gave me exposure to architecture and my work ethic....
