Community members turned out in force Saturday to support Michael and Chequella Walker's annual fan drive, helping collect about 100 fans for senior citizens in Minden and the surrounding area. The July 4 event, held on Roosevelt Drive, also received monetary donations that organizers said will be used to purchase additional fans before distribution begins this week. "First of all, Chequella and I thank God for giving us the health and strength to be able to help our Minden communities," Michael Walker said. "We'd also like to thank all the wonderful people of Minden and the surrounding area that braved the heat and came by and donated the fans." Walker said the drive received approximately 100 fans during the event, with additional support coming from cash donations and contributors outside Louisiana. "We got up to 100 fans dropped off," he said. "The money donations will be used for buying more fans. We had people sending fans in from other states, as far as Detroit, Michigan; Los Angeles, California; and Arkansas."
